The feeling
that you need to urinate often during pregnancy is mainly
caused by the pressure of your growing uterus on your bladder
and increased urine production. You may feel like you need
to urinate even when your bladder is almost empty, because
the pressure on your bladder gives the sensation that your
bladder is full.
As your
uterus grows and rises higher into your abdomen, the symptoms
may go away. However, during the last month of pregnancy
when the fetus moves lower in your uterus to prepare for
labor, the pressure on your bladder will increase again and
the symptoms will return. During later pregnancy, you may
awake several times during the night needing to urinate.
If the
pressure on your bladder causes you to leak some urine, you
can do Kegel
exercises to help strengthen the muscles around your
urethra.
If you
have pain when you urinate, or you often feel you must urinate
again right after urinating, talk to your health care provider.
You could have an infection.
